Commoning Art – Buchlaunch beim Vergesellschaftungstag

Die UCC schlägt vor, Kulturorte als Commons zu betreiben – radikaldemokratisch organisiert und offen für alle. Dafür beziehen wir uns unter anderem auf das Buch Commoning Art: Die transformativen Potenziale von Commons in der Kunst von Vera Hofmann, Johannes Euler, Linus Zurmühlen und Silke Helfrich. Die englische Ausgabe ist frisch veröffentlicht und wir organisieren gemeinsam mit Vera Hofmann einen Buchlaunch.
Commoning Art: Activating the Transformative Potential of Commons in the Arts (Set Margins’, 2026; deutsche Erstausgabe 2022 bei transcript) unterscheidet drei Beziehungen zwischen Kunst und Commons: Kunst für Commons, die das Gemeinsame zum Thema macht; Kunst als Commons, die Eigentum und Urheberrecht infrage stellt; und Commoning Art, bei der Commoning nicht Thema, sondern Methodologie ist – die Art, wie gearbeitet, entschieden und mit Geld und Macht umgegangen wird. Hier liegt für die Autor:innen das größte Transformationspotenzial. In Commoning Art wird Kunst als Infrastruktur beschrieben, die durch Sorge, geteilte Verantwortung und gemeinsame Entscheidungen getragen wird. Es geht darum, wie Kulturarbeit mit weniger Abhängigkeit von Markt und Staat dauerhaft getragen werden kann.
Das Buch gibt es als Printausgabe und auch als kostenfreie PDF (mit der Möglichkeit zu Spenden) mit der Lizenz CC BY-NC-SA. Lesen, kopieren und weitergeben sind ausdrücklich erwünscht. Der Booklaunch findet im Rahmen des bundesweiten Vergesellschaftungstags am 10. Oktober statt, den das Bündnis Alles für Alle zum ersten Mal organisiert. Die UCC ist seit diesem Jahr Teil des Bündnisses.

The UCC proposes to run cultural institutions as commons—organized according to radical democratic principles and open to everyone. In doing so, we refer, among other resources, to the book Commoning Art: Die transformativen Potenziale von Commons in der Kunst by Vera Hofmann, Johannes Euler, Linus Zurmühlen, and Silke Helfrich. The English edition has just been published, and we are organizing a book launch together with Vera Hofmann.
Commoning Art: Activating the Transformative Potential of Commons in the Arts (Set Margins’, 2026; first German edition published in 2022 by transcript) distinguishes three relationships between art and the commons: art for the commons, which takes the commons as its subject; art as the commons, which challenges ownership and copyright; and Commoning Art, in which commoning is not a subject but a methodology—the way work is done, decisions are made, and money and power are handled. For the authors, this is where the greatest potential for transformation lies. In Commoning Art, art is described as infrastructure sustained by care, shared responsibility, and collective decision-making. The focus is on how cultural work can be sustainably supported with less dependence on the market and the state.

The book launch will take place as part of the nationwide socializing day on October 10, which the „Alles für Alle“ alliance organizes for the first time. The UCC joined the alliance this year.
